EFDI Paper: Effectiveness of Deposit Insurance, Competitiveness and Institutional Diversity in the Banking Union (practitioner perspective on the CMDI framework and its implementation)

EFDI is pleased to publish a new Banking Union Working Group (BUWG) paper: “Effectiveness of Deposit Insurance, Competitiveness and Institutional Diversity in the Banking Union”.

Approved by the EFDI EU Committee at its meeting in Bucharest on 10 June 2026, the paper reflects the collective input and experience of deposit insurers from across Europe.

The paper examines the implications of the CMDI reform and explores how effective depositor protection, financial stability, competitiveness and institutional diversity can be balanced within the Banking Union.

By bringing together operational experience and policy reflections, it aims to contribute to the broader discussion on the future development of the European financial safety net and the Banking Union.

We invite readers to explore the paper, share it with their networks, and contribute to the ongoing discussion on the future of deposit insurance and financial stability in Europe.
