
EFDI EU Committee. 16–17 October 2025, Budapest, Hungary
The European Forum of Deposit Insurers (EFDI) successfully concluded its EU Committee Meeting, held on 16–17 October at the Hungarian Central Bank Supervisory Centre in Budapest. The event was graciously hosted by the National Deposit Insurance Fund of Hungary (NDIF)
The two-day event gathered experts and representatives from across Europe to discuss key developments in deposit insurance, investor protection and cross-border cooperation.
The meeting commenced with welcoming remarks from EFDI Chairman Mr Stefan Tacke and Mr Peter Nagy, Director of International Affairs and Policy at the NDIF.
A keynote address was delivered by Mr Radován Jelasity, President of the Hungarian Banking Association and CEO of Erste Bank Hungary Ltd., with a very insightful introduction about the Hungarian banking system.
Highlights from the Agenda included:
- Cross Border Working Group (CBWG) updates and review of potential amendments to the CMDI cross-border framework presented by co-leaders Mr Borja Peletero and Ms Ivy Jeuken.
- Data Retrieval Project: approval of the template and content led by co-leaders of the H2C Operations Subgroup, Mr Tormod Skjaerpe and Mr Arnaud Ribadeau-Dumas.
- DGSD 3 Working Group (D3I) Draft Position Paper on Temporary High Balances: presented by co-leaders Ms Renata Kadlecova and Mr Péter Nagy and Ms Zuzana Sucha.
- Banking Union Working Group (BUWG) session: Updates on the CMDI framework and workstream nominations by co-leaders Mr Marcello Bredice and Ms Juliane Seiter.
- Database Project for Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS) and Investor Protection Schemes (ICS): Presentation and discussion of the draft database initiative presented by Mr Marcello Bredice, aimed at enhancing data harmonization and operational efficiency across DGSs.
- Investor Compensation Schemes (ICS) Paper: Potential Improvements to EU ICS Regulatory Framework: presented by Mr Alan de Lacy and Mr Ignacio Santillan.
- UNIDROIT Legislative Guide on Bank Liquidation: overview by Ms Myrte M. T. Thijssen, offering insights about this new guide with special focus on the role of Deposit Guarantee Schemes.
- FITD presentation of their recent intervention case: presented by Mr Gianluca Grasso from FITD.
